Child Protection is a prevailing is a prevailing problem in SSA as children face neglect, abuse (sexual, emotional, physical), trafficking, etc. The system put in place has a great impact on how the problems above are addressed.

The study shows the impact of CPS in four countries in SSA with same colonial history under the British and an adopted CP orientation similar to the Anglo-Saxon model with central control by the state. In the article we highlight some implications of this CPS on practitioners such as lack of agency, lack of flexibility and innovation in offering services to clients. Hence we argue for discretionary spaces for child protection social workers where there will be empowered, given more flexibility to work in the best interest of the child.
